Pasadena Academy Art Program |
|||
| The Pasadena Academy Art Program is predicated on the belief that all students can benefit from instruction in art and design fundamentals. Talent is no more necessary to learning in this area of study than it is in English class, where all children are expected to develop a relatively mature grasp of language conventions, with only a few expected to become masters of the craft. | |||
| Careers related to art are abundant, and not restricted to "fine art". Consider that every single "thing" you see is the result of some persons’ conscious design decisions, and you will realize that millions of designers and technicians are making a good living doing something they enjoy. | |||
| Pasadena Academy has only had an art program since September of 2000. At that time small classes were accommodated in a classroom of average size that had a sink and extra cupboards, and instruction was offered in drawing fundamentals, tempera painting and rudimentary printmaking for both junior and senior high levels. | |||
| Subsequent years saw a large increase in the number of students registering in art courses, leading to the size of the art room being doubled and another sink being installed. Computers with quality colour printers and scanners were added to facilitate student visioning. Module offerings expanded to include watercolour painting, graphic design, computer animation, architectural design, serigraphy and sculpture. Digital photography is being slowly added to our program as equipment and instructor expertise is accumulated. | |||
| Recent expansion efforts (in concert with the band program) seek to create an audio/visual studio capable of recording dramatic productions to video or DVD and music on compact disc. And the school mural program continues to transform our building into a more interesting space. | |||
| Student appreciation for the art program, along with support from various administrators, community sponsors and the present instructor’s rabid enthusiasm has enabled the development of a multifaceted program in a short span of time. Hopefully, the future will see our A/V studio completed and an expansion of our ability to do custom printmaking, along with a modest framing operation to enable us to put more student work out on community view, when we secure the necessary financing sources. | |||
